***FULLY TESTED AND REWOUND***

Bruno S. is magnificent as Stroszek, a gentle, middle-aged innocent who has spent most of his life in prisons. Stroszek drinks, plays his out-of-tune grand piano and befriends a soulful prostitute, Eva (Eva Mattes), and an eccentric old man, Scheitz (Clemens Scheitz).
Together, the three oddly-assorted Berlin misfits follow the American dream to Railroad Flats, Wisconsin, a god-forsaken truckstop where they find a bleak Eldorado of T.V. football and mobile homesteading.
The film's conclusion, one of Herzog's most powertul, involves a flaming truck, an amusement arcade, an Indian chief, an endlessly circling ski lift, a single and desolate gunshot and the haunting image of a dancing chicken.

In English and German with English subtitles.
Running time: 108 min.
