LARGE Dioscorea discolor / dodecaneura - Ornamental Yam

Dioscorea dodecaneura (formerly discolor) is an attractive, vigorous vining plant that, in my opinion, has some of the most stunning foliage in the ornamental plant world. The leaves are light to dark green with dramatic silver or purple venation and a pixelated silver stripe down the middle. The undersides are a deep purple. The leaves are also velvety to the touch. The more sun the plant is exposed to, the more dramatic the coloration. It grows very fast in the warm months and will reach out for something to climb on. It makes an excellent hanging basket when the foliage is trained to hang down. This plant will go dormant and lose all its leaves in the winter months, but this can be prevented by keeping it in a warm environment indoors.
