Vintage Seal Of New York City NYC Dept Of Corrections Gold Ceramic Plaque On Wood. Measures approx 13” by 10” and is heavy. This is the seal of New York City, dated 1664, featuring figures of the Pilgrims and Native Americans. Crafted from a substantial ceramic or chalkware base and adorned with gold paint, it was once displayed in one of the city’s municipal correctional facilities. I acquired this artifact from a former New York City corrections officer. The inscription at the bottom reads “NEW YORK CITY DEPT OF CORRECTIONS.” Given its antiquity, likely dating back to the early to mid-1900s, the seal exhibits some minor paint wear, but its overall condition remains well-preserved for its age.
