The Heritage Yellow and White Gold Diamond and White Enamel Seal Pup Surprise Locket contains 16 round brilliant cut white diamonds. These are set in an 18ct white gold locket, which hang from an 18ct yellow gold bail and chain. The adorable seal pup is crafted from white-as-snow lacquer with yellow gold whiskers. It peers from the locket wide-eyed, sitting atop an Amazonian and Silicated Agate platform that gives the appearance of freshly fallen snow.
Peter Carl Faberge was renowned for crafting quirky little animals from hardstone as charms and ornaments. Art historians have described these creations – the Faberge menagerie – as possessing ‘psychologically interpretive aspects’, or human-like qualities. The accentuation of specific characteristics of each subject also gave them distinctive personalities. Faberge often combined these hardstones with precious metals and coloured gems, seamlessly integrating each with the other to produce miniature works of art.
