Stories Behind The Scarves

The Hermès Couvée d'Hermès scarf, designed by Caty Latham in 1994, is a playful and whimsical design that features horses laying eggs, inspired by the house's equestrian heritage and the iconic crocodile design. It's a self-referential design, referencing other Hermès scarves and incorporating details from the brand's history.

The Hermès Poste et Cavalerie scarf, designed by Joachim Metz in 1986, draws its inspiration from the sabretache, a decorative leather bag historically worn by cavalry officers. These sabretaches, often adorned with royal or regimental crests, replaced pockets on uniforms and were used to carry items like orders or fire-starting materials. Metz's design features depictions of various sabretaches from the period of Louis XIV, showcasing the historical significance and decorative elements of these objects.
