Loss and Gain is a novel written by John Henry Newman, a prominent figure in the Oxford Movement and later a Catholic cardinal. The novel follows the story of Charles Reding, a young man who is struggling with his faith and identity as a Catholic in Victorian England. After a series of events, including a failed romance and a crisis of faith, Charles converts to Anglicanism, much to the disappointment of his Catholic friends and family. However, he soon realizes that his new faith does not provide the answers he was seeking and eventually returns to Catholicism. The novel explores themes of faith, doubt, and the search for spiritual fulfillment in a rapidly changing society. It is considered to be one of Newman's most autobiographical works and is a significant contribution to Victorian literature. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
