Ownership and history
Founder: Japanese designer and music producer Nigo, born Tomoaki Nagao, founded the company Nowhere Co., Ltd. and its brand A Bathing Ape in 1993 in Tokyo.
Former owner: In 2011, Nigo sold a majority stake in the company to Hong Kong fashion conglomerate I.T Group. Citing struggles with the administrative side of the business, Nigo stayed on as Creative Director for two years before leaving completely in 2013.
Current owner: In 2021, private equity firm CVC Capital Partners took co-ownership of A Bathing Ape in a carve-out
