🏁 LIMITED EDITION 100 “NASCAR CHAMPIONS Art Series” by Alex Book Art 1954 NASCAR Champion Driver: Lee Petty Car: Chrysler New Yorker Team / Owner: Petty Enterprises Official race name: Martinsville 200 Date: Sunday, October 17th, 1954 Racetrack: Martinsville Speedway Location: Ridgeway, VA Track stats: 0.5-Mile Dirt Oval Landscape & Architecture: A crowd of spectators at the old Martinsville Speedway. This artwork is part of my “NASCAR CHAMPIONS Art Series,” a historically focused collection dedicated to the drivers, machines, and racetracks that defined the early decades of American stock-car racing. Each piece is issued as a Limited Edition of 100 and created entirely by hand. My guiding principle is constant: Authenticity, precision, and historical accuracy in every stroke of my brush. I am Alex Book, an automotive artist and motorsport historian. My work is grounded in archival research and traditional artistic methods. In this series, the racing environment—track surface, spectators, fencing, and surrounding atmosphere—is rendered in ink drawing with watercolor accents, inspired by early graphic engravings. The race car and driver are executed in oil painting, giving weight, presence, and mechanical character to the central figures of the scene. This artwork depicts Lee Petty, the 1954 NASCAR Champion, driving the Chrysler New Yorker entered by Petty Enterprises. The scene is set during the Martinsville 200, held on Sunday, October 17th, 1954, at Martinsville Speedway in Ridgeway, Virginia. At the time, the track was a half-mile dirt oval, tight and unforgiving, demanding precision rather than outright speed. The composition emphasizes a crowd of spectators at the old Martinsville Speedway, capturing the close connection between fans and racing that defined short-track NASCAR in the 1950s. For this subject, the artwork is offered in two vertical giclée art print formats, each presenting the complete scene: – A vertical art print on a white background, emphasizing line work and contrast. – A vertical art print on a light beige background, echoing the tone of vintage paper and period illustrations. All prints are produced as premium matte art prints on 175 gsm museum-grade archival paper, using pigmented archival inks selected for durability and tonal accuracy. Each print is hand-rolled in protective tissue and shipped in an extra-thick triangle box or tube. The artwork is supplied unframed. This series is created for collectors, historians, and dedicated motorsport enthusiasts who value research, craftsmanship, and historical truth—artworks intended as visual documents of NASCAR history, not mass-produced decoration. Unframed print, hand-rolled in protective paper and shipped in a rigid tube. Made in the USA from globally sourced materials.
