Naturally, osmosis moves salt through a semi-permeable membrane from a low-saline area to a high-saline one, aiming to balance concentrations on both sides. The pump's high pressure reverses this, pushing salty water and impurities across the membrane, allowing only water molecules to pass. Salt and impurities are discarded, resulting in purified water with 99% less dissolved salts on the permeate side.
