The hole should match the minor dimension of the broach (i.e., just smaller than the square size). Ensure the hole is centered and free of burrs. Install the Live Center Tool Mount the live center with the broaching tool in your lathe tailstock. Ensure the broaching tool is securely locked in place with the grub screw. Align the Lathe Line up the live center and the chuck so they are perfectly concentric. The broach should enter the pilot hole cleanly and without resistance.
