About this item: This wondrous, mystical hand-carved sese wood mask comes from the Nyadedzor workshop. With a round face, half-closed eyes, and an open mouth, the mask bears the name Nkunim, meaning "to succeed". The piece is adorned with beautiful designs as well as aluminum plates, and it is provided with a coat of potassium for protection and finished for an antique appearance. About our Artist: 'After completing a course in auto mechanics, getting a job was difficult and neither my parents nor I could afford the high cost of the machinery I would need to set up on my own. I struggled by doing menial jobs, but I managed to save what I could until I had enough money to buy a small piece of land and raise a wooden store. I started buying finished carvings, and in the evenings I learned to carve these beautiful items. My inspiration comes through dreams, so when I wake up I immediately put the design on paper in order not to lose the idea.'
