Black Oxide Activator Product does not perform blackening. It is an activator for use before blackening. Certain hardened or specialized steels can prove challenging to blacken with our Black Oxide solution, only blackening to a grey color. Our Black Oxide Activator enhances the color and depth of the blackened finish on these alloys. Mix One Part Activator With Nine Parts Distilled Water in a plastic container. Immerse cleaned steel parts in the activator for 2-5 minutes, rinse, then proceed to blackening. Can be used at room temperature or heated to 120 deg F for an even greater activating effect. For Steel Parts Only - Not Stainless Steel or Iron.
