Traveling Man Treasures is selling this vintage (c. 1940s-1950s) ornamental brass Burmese Guardian Lion with a nice patina.

Guardian Lions are present at the entrance to stupas and Buddhist temples in Burma and other countries in Southeast Asia.

The Chinthe, also known as the Leogryph, is a mythical creature that combines elements of a lion and other fantastical beings. Its origins are deeply rooted in Burmese folklore and Buddhism. Legend has it that Chinthe is a guardian spirit, symbolizing strength, courage and protection. Its mythical presence is believed to ward off malevolent forces, ensuring the sanctity of temples and pagodas.
