Whitewater High School Senior Trips: 1934-1962 Hardcover – January 3, 2026

Beginning in 1934, and continuing for a period of 29 years, the Senior Class and faculty members of Whitewater High School participated in trips which became legendary. The trips were planned to commence immediately after the spring school term and most were three weeks in length. The destination for eighteen of the trips was Washington, D.C., New York City, and many sites along the way. The trips originated in Whitewater, Kansas and usually tallied four to five thousand miles. Other trips included the west coast, the gulf coast, and the National Parks in the western States. The transportation was one or two school buses plus a semi tractor-trailer unit for the mobile kitchen and luggage space. The success of these trips was governed by a careful balance of educational value and entertainment characteristics.
