The Early Wonder Camellia from the Southern Living Plant Collection is a brand-new selection for 2019! This is a Camellia japonica variety, therefore, it has many of the qualities people love about this breed of plants. However, most Japonica varieties begin blooming in late fall to early winter, and that’s where the Early Wonder breaks the mold. This selection begins blooming in Fall, a time when traditionally only Camellia sasanqua varieties are in bloom! And these flowers are absolute show-stoppers. Each bloom is a large, formal, and rosy pink with double petals. You won’t get tired of looking at these blossoms anytime soon, which is good because they emerge in huge numbers. This variety reaches a mature height of 6-8′ H x 4-6′ W, so be sure to leave room for it to grow.

  • Dazzling Display: The Early Wonder Camellia showcases exquisite pink blooms that elevate any garden's aesthetics. As it matures, this evergreen shrub gracefully reaches a commanding height of 6-8 feet and spans 4-6 feet in width.
  • Charm: Perfect for creating a vibrant focal point, the Early Wonder is best suited for borders, entranceways, or as a standalone specimen. When strategically placed, its radiant blooms can attract butterflies and pollinators, enhancing your garden's biodiversity. Its elegant appearance makes it a prime choice for formal landscaping or serene garden corners.
  • To Prune or Not to Prune: For optimal bloom display, the Early Wonder Camellia thrives with partial to full sunlight. Though it naturally maintains a robust shape, occasional pruning can be done to keep it neat or shape it according to your landscaping vision.
  • Adaptability: This Camellia is hardy in USDA Zones 7 to 9, ensuring robust growth in these regions. For areas below Zone 7, consider container planting, allowing mobility during harsh winter periods. Regular watering, ensuring well-drained soil, will keep this plant flourishing and its blooms radiant.
