In a world of brightly colored plates, this plate stands out for its simple elegance. Seven wells are hand-painted black and brown to form the oysters, while the background is a white lace, perhaps a trompe-l'œil napkin, with remnants of a gold scalloped edge.

It is 8" and of German origin, made in the late 1800s. There is an imprint on the back indicating that the mold was registered and some hand-painted numbers. Those are likely the mold number and artist identification. There is no maker's mark.

Impecible condition with no chips or cracks. The foot and paint around the scalloped edge show some signs of wear.
