Reverse-painted glass art—called garasu-e (ガラス絵) in Japan—was rediscovered during the Showa era (1926–1989) as a way to merge modern design with folk tradition, using hand-painted glass panels backed with reflective foil for luminous color and depth.
Original Japanese reverse-painted glass artwork from the Showa period (c. 1950s–1970s) depicting warabe (children) dancing in the Awa Odori festival of Tokushima—one of Japan’s most beloved summer celebrations.
Painted on the back of smooth glass and backed with foil paper for subtle iridescent shimmer. Signed in red artist seal 祐幸 (Yūkō), known for mid-century festival scenes and child motifs.
Framed in its original cream Bakelite-style frame with easel stand and wall hooks.
Approx. 6 × 4 ⅞ in overall size.
Excellent vintage condition; bright color, no cracks or paint lift.
A rare small-format, signed Showa-era garasu-e, preserved with full gloss and cultural charm—an authentic collectible example of Japan’s mid-century folk-art movement.
