Offered is an authentic hand-colored stipple engraving titled “Levendy Roumy, Marin Grec / Levendy, Marin, Soldat de Marine”, published in Paris, 1812, as part of Antoine-Laurent Castellan’s monumental work “Mœurs, Usages, et Costumes des Othomans”.
This rare plate belongs to the celebrated ethnographic series depicting traditional costumes and military figures of the Ottoman Empire. Castellan’s work is known for its delicate composition, fine engraving, and vibrant hand-coloring by contemporary artists.
