This piece is a heavy Pittsburgh cone shaped pillar molded bar bottle, 8 vertical ribs and a polish pontil. It is slightly smaller than the usual quart bottles, standing 8” high. From the way the heavy bar lip is made this bottle can be reasonably attributed to the McKee Bros. factory, 1850-1870. Early bar bottles did not have glass stoppers, so this bottle is complete as-is. By the 1850s bar bottles were found in hotels, taverns, on steamships and probably also on trains throughout the US. Because the wide base prevents it from easily tipping over, these pillar mold bar bottles have been traditionally associated with saloons on steamships.
