True first edition, as evidenced by the spine (see photo)--the is title printed diagonally, with "SCALA-WAGONS" hyphenated and on two lines. (Later edition do have the word Scalawagons in single line, NOT hyphenated.)
Hinges are not perfect, with some cracking and possible repairs (tough to say) on front hinge, but binding is overall sound and solid. Usual cover wear, some staining to back cover. Overall a clean copy inside in very good condition.
