This vintage Satsuma glass is in the motif of a water pail called Mizu- baketsu in Japanese. As one would expect is handmade and hand painted. The water bucket is used often as symbolism in Japanese arts. It symbolizes carrying water from the well in old times. Japanese mythology embraces agriculturally based folk religion, and many of these stories are based on the water bucket or pail. This piece was made of glass and has water stains inside but otherwise in excellent condition. Very pretty!!
