An incredible piece of history. Leatherbound folio containing the score and 8 parts for Schubert Op 166 octet for winds and strings (clarinet, horn, bassoon, 2 violins, viola, cello, bass. The parts belonged originally to John Parr, a bassoonist. The parts are all stamped with Parr’s name and dated 1905. There is writing inside the parts listing the players for a performance of the worn in Sheffield Parish Church on January 28, 1906. There is also a program glued inside showing it performed again in 1934.
All parts look playable and have some markings. There is some dirt and stains on covers. Corners are bent and worn, a few small tears. A few sections of the first violin part have an alternate taped in but original is intact. The clarinet part has a handwritten version of the andante inserted in the part (along with the printed part.) The main flaw is a musty smell to the leather folio, less so to the parts. The fabric tie on the folio is broken.
