Vintage Japanese Parasol / Wagasa Style Bamboo Umbrella Painted Cherry Blossoms

This parasol is traditionally hand-painted with a gorgeous Cherry blossom design and made from bamboo wood frame. It is approx 25” from the center top to the edge of the canopy when expanded and 29.5” from top to bottom of handle.

Although the fabric appears to be a type of plastic or other synthetic material- this parasol features other traditional features- including an elaborate and intricate interior structure - likely bamboo which is typical of the Japanese Wasaga. These umbrellas are usually crafted from natural materials like bamboo and washi paper, using centuries-old techniques - so the canopy material is likely a type of plastic which has been oiled down to be waterproof .

These parasols are often used for shade, as decor items to ward off evil spirits, or as props in traditional dances and religious ceremonies.
