Excellent condition—no chips, cracks or repairs—on this vintage Royal Doulton character jug. As shown, this creative presentation depicts Rip Van Winkle looking off to the left with a fancy arc handle to the other side showing a blackbird at the top in a gnome leaning against the base of the tree just below. This piece is notably well painted with graded shading all-over, and no rule details such as his ruddy cheeks.
The underside of this piece is fully signed with made in England Royal Doulton England “Rip Van Winkle” D.6438. COPR. 1954. DOULTON & CO. LIMITED.
This is a particularly large example measuring 6 ¾ inches tall by 7 inches wide. Excellent, investment-quality example.
