Original vintage magazine ad for Community Silverplate featuring the Lady Hamilton pattern. Fabulous artwork of a sailor hugging his girl is signed Michael. Ad text laments that Community patterns were unavailable at that time due to war.
Oneida didn’t actually have any silverware to sell. With the onset of the war, Oneida (Community Silver’s parent company) had ceased production of their silverware patterns and had converted their factories to war work. They supplied the US Army and Navy with utilitarian flatware, and manufactured surgical instruments and also produced items as far from the spectrum of silverware that you can imagine including, battlefield equipment running the gamut from hand grenades, guns, bayonets, aircraft fuel tanks and jet engine parts to chemical bombs.
