【What is the "Tateyama Tunnel Trolleybus"?】
Diesel buses operated in the Tateyama Tunnel, which connects Murodo and Daikanbo on the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, from 1971. However, in consideration of the environment, they were replaced with the trolleybus Model 8000 (Tateyama Tunnel Trolleybus) in 1996. The Tateyama Tunnel Trolleybus became the railway (trackless electric train) that runs at the highest altitude in Japan. The trolleybus runs on tires like a regular bus and uses a steering wheel for operation, but it receives power from an overhead wire, so it is legally classified as a "railway," making it a unique vehicle.
