This item originates from the estate of the late Brigadier General Perry Miles of the United States Army. General Miles graduated from West Point in 1895, the Army School of the Line in 1916 as a Distinguished Graduate, the Army Staff College in 1920, and the Army War College in 1921. He was promoted to Brigadier General in 1932.
During his career, he was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for leading a 200-mile trek to capture a blockhouse in the Philippines during the Philippine resistance. He also received The Distinguished Service Medal, French Croix de Guerre with Palm, French Legion of Honor, Silver Star, Purple Heart, and medals for the Spanish War, Philippine Campaign, and Victory.
