On hand-painted Nippon, the raised gold balls are typically called moriage. Moriage is a decorative technique where a thick mixture of clay and water (slip) is applied to the surface, creating raised, textured areas. These raised areas can be in various shapes, including dots, beads, or other patterns.
The term "Nippon" was used on porcelain made in Japan, particularly for the U.S. market, until 1921, when "Japan" or "Made in Japan" became the required origin marking.
