Authentic WWII British National Fire Service (NFS) Womens Tunic, dated 1943. Manufactured by Universal Clothing Co. (Kingsland) Ltd., London, and marked with the official broad arrow property stamp on the interior label.
This is a rare surviving example of the womens double-breasted wool tunics worn by female NFS members during the Second World War. These were issued to women who served as firewatchers, dispatch riders, communication workers, and support personnel during the London Blitz and throughout the war.
The tunic features a structured military cut, a high stand collar, and a double-breasted front. The brass eagle buttons currently installed appear to be later replacements, but the coat itself is authentic and original.
