This is an original RARE ART piece by O Ruotolo of NY Bronze Mother and Child backed on Alabaster. Signed by artist Onario Ruotolo who was considered Little Italy's Rodin. He was born in Italy and came to the States in the early 1900s. Because of the poverty he saw in New York, his art often portrayed the struggles in society, but in general was known for creating realistic art. In the 1920s, he started an art school called Leonardo da Vinci Art School for the impoverished in New York to support their creativity. This particular sculpture reflects the real life of a mother and child. It measures a 9" square, Bronze medal is a 7.25" diameter. Very heavy. Very good condition.
