Antique European Copper Milk Can – Late 19th / Early 20th Century
Authentic antique copper dairy milk can with a heavy patented swing-arm locking lid and double side handles (No Lid)
Constructed of thick rolled copper with brazed seams, this type of vessel was used in European dairies circa late 1800s to early 1900s, before copper containers were phased out in favor of steel and aluminum.
The locking clasp is cast and patent-marked (“PAT. 190…”, partially legible – see close-up photo), confirming industrial manufacture rather than later decorative reproduction.
The shoulder bears a small stamped arrow alignment mark, a known feature on European dairy vessels used to keep lids matched to bodies during production.
While no full maker name remains visible (common on European dairy cans where only patented hardware was marked), the construction, latch style, and materials strongly indicate French or Swiss origin
