In the 19th century, the Rotterdam-based Erasmus Collection was consolidated and developed, moving from being a collection of scattered volumes to a coherent unit, with the city's public library lending services beginning in the late 1800s. This period also saw the publication of "Erasmus Bibliotheca," a two-volume compilation by Victor Vander Haeghen and R. Vanden Berghe, which compiled books by and about the Renaissance humanist Desiderius Erasmus, and was a notable, but limited, publication for its time.
Development of the Rotterdam Collection
Emergence of a Collection:
The second half of the 19th century saw the Erasmus Collection in Rotterdam begin to grow into a coherent unit, though it was still housed within the City Archive, which was located in the Schielandshuis .
