This is an original WWII-era U.S. Navy Drift Sight, Mark 2-C (Pelorus, Base Drift Recording), manufactured by the Waltham Watch Company of Waltham, Massachusetts under contract NXS-8588.
Drift sights were essential navigation and bombing instruments used by U.S. Navy aviators during World War II. The Mark 2-C model allowed navigators to measure aircraft drift angle caused by crosswinds, ensuring accurate flight corrections and bombing runs. This example features:
• Original data plate with contract and model information
• Adjustable sighting mechanism with intact optics
• Rotating compass-style base for drift angle readings
• “Recording” function design typical of the Mark 2-C
Condition: Shows expected wear from age and service, but remains intact and well-preserved for its age. No major missing parts noted. Optics and mechanical functions have not been tested — sold as a historical collectible only.
