I am selling the "Matazo Kayama: Collection of Works."

Matazo Kayama (September 24, 1927 - April 6, 2004) was a leading Japanese-style painter and printmaker in Japan.

Born in Kamigyo-ku, Kyoto, as the son of Katsuya Kayama, a Nishijin textile designer, in 1927. He graduated from Kyoto Municipal School of Arts and Crafts (now Kyoto Municipal Tongdo High School of Arts and Crafts and Kyoto City University of Arts) and Tokyo Fine Arts School (now Tokyo University of the Arts). He studied under Kyujin Yamamoto. In 1950, his works "Self-Portrait" and "Zoo" were selected for the Spring Creative Art Exhibition for the first time, and he received the Research Group Award. He became a professor at Tama Art University in 1966. He became a professor at Tokyo University of the Arts in 1988. He is a professor emeritus at Tokyo University of the Arts. He expressed the traditional beauty of Japanese-style painting with a modern sensibility and was called the "Modern Rinpa." From the late 1970s, he also worked on ink painting. He was selected as a Person of Cultural Merit in 1997 and received the Order of Culture in 2003. He died of pneumonia in a hospital in Tokyo in 2004.
