Vintage Alan Fletcher 1970s Clam Ashtray Pentagram, Red Clam Melamine 2 Part Ashtray, Mebel, Space Age Ashtray, Mid Century Modern Decor
Designed in 1972 by graphic designer Alan Fletcher. The Clam ashtray incorporates two identical red melamine halves with fluted tines that fit together perfectly to form a lidded storage container or two ashtrays.
Original pieces are marked Pentagram (which this is). The design was remade in the 1990s by Mebel Italy for Habitat. The Mebel pieces are much more common to find.
Marked on the inside of each half: Pentagram followed by a series of numbers
Each half of the ashtray measures approximately 6" across x 1 1/2" tall.
No chips or cracks. A few dark areas and some scuffs / scratches.
Don't smoke? Mid Century ashtrays make great trinket dishes or catch-alls.
