In 1977, designer Jean Touitou joined Kenzo in Paris.
Later, after working at Agnès b., he founded "IRIE" with Sueo Irie, who had worked with him at Kenzo, in 1983.

In 1986, he launched the men's brand "A.P.C." in Paris.
The brand name A.P.C. stands for "Atelier de Production et de Creation" (Workshop of Production and Creation), reflecting the intention to not associate the designer's name with the clothing design.
