A handcrafted ceramic sculpture "Mother & Child" or "Navajo Lullaby" made in 1986 by Jack Black with signature at the bottom. The sculpture depicts a Navajo woman holding a baby. The sculpture is finished with a pale blue or cobalt-colored glaze, with the natural clay visible on the head and face. The piece measures about 13 1/2" tall, by 5 1/2" wide. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, scratches.
Artist Bio: He attend Institute of Design in Chicago, lived and worked in Tucson AZ. He spent 20 years creating sculptures and opened his studio in Sedona Az in 1984. Jack Blacks work is a tribute to the Navajo culture and beauty of the Southwest colors. His sculpture is characterized by simplicity of smooth form. He began production molds, where stoneware figures were cast, fired, sanded, cleaned again, and fired with multiple coats of glaze by hand. When he died in 2002, all of the molds were destroyed, insuring the value and rarity of the existing pieces.
