"00501-01" was manufactured in 2003 as a Japanese project by Levi's, using XX17 denim, which aimed for a vintage-like fabric while being woven on innovative looms for the regular line. The silhouette adopts a classic fit that inherits the silhouette of the red-ear era. The sewing is made in the Philippines. The booklet attached to the product explains XX17 denim as follows:

XX17 denim is a special denim that faithfully reproduces the way of making and weaving yarn of 1917 at the time with the latest technology, discovered in the archives of Cone Mills. (＊At that time, it was narrow-width with red ears made by a power loom, but XX17 denim uses the latest innovative looms to handle this with a wide width without ears.)
The warp of XX17 denim mixes four different yarns to reproduce the unevenness of the time, and the weft uses special uneven yarn, Amsler ringspun, from Cone Mills.
The weight of the XX17 denim itself is not 14oz as it is today, but a slightly lighter denim of 11.75oz unwashed and 13oz after washing, linking to the history of Levi's, which started at 9oz. The XX17 denim, which is light and very easy to wear and develops character the more you wear it, is a special denim that condenses the history and tradition of Cone Mills and Levi's into one.
