U.S. Military Surplus
During the 1940s, in the era of World War II, soldiers going off to war had a custom of giving accessories to their families and sweethearts back home.
These were called sweetheart jewelry, and many featured designs of the soldiers' respective military branches, including rings, necklaces, bracelets, and brooches.
This is just the pendant top, a locket-type charm that can hold photos.
It features a heart-shaped base carved from mother-of-pearl, the shell of pearl-producing Akoya oysters, with the emblem of the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF), the predecessor to the U.S. Air Force.
It is marked "STERLING" and 12K gold-filled.
It has two photo compartments.
It's a rather luxurious piece.
While there is overall dullness and minor scratches on the back, the hinge functions without issue, and there is no significant damage other than age-related wear.
Since there is no chain, you could use the 40's dog tag chain I have listed separately, although the color is different.
It's recommended for those who want to stick to the same era.
I offer a small discount for combined purchases.
I also have other types of sweetheart jewelry listed.
