Up for sale is a Rare Old Japanese Lacquered Wood Maki-e Bento Picnic Lunch Box Chest Jubako.
Amazing compact designs and beautifully made. The overall size is 9" (W) x 9.5" (H) x 5.5" (D). This is an old item, so expect some age related wears. It holds together perfectly.
The front cover slides off and becomes a square serving tray.
The top pan slides out with wooden chopsticks, and itself becomes another rectangular serving tray.
The middle section has a 3-tier stacking box on the right as shown in the 8th picture. On the left side, there is a box with lid, which has a oval opening to the box. I don't now what is for (see the 5th picture). There is also a space for a rice bowl on top of this box.
The bottom section comes out as a covered box with another 2 shallower bowls inside.
This is an amazing set, all wood, well built and hand-painted beautifully. Comes with a brass handle for carrying. It is a rare to find and highly collectible item!
