AMAZING cut ammolite from an uncommon locale. This specimen is rare, incredible, and originally sold to me for $220 quite a few years ago. At an ideal size of 23g and 1.1 by 1.75 inches, she would make an immensely powerful amulet.

Ammolite is a rare, iridescent organic gemstone formed from the fossilized shells of ancient ammonites (extinct squid-like sea creatures), found primarily in Alberta, Canada's Bearpaw Formation, prized for its vibrant, rainbow-like colors that shift with light, making it a valuable material for jewelry.

Making ammolite into cabochons is quite difficult and challenging due to its extreme fragility, thin layered structure (often less than a fingernail thick), and low Mohs hardness (around 3.5-4), requiring stabilization with resin and often assembly into triplets with a protective cap (like quartz or spinel) to create durable, vibrant gems, making it labor-intensive and requiring significant skill.
