Vintage Japanese Mingei Kokeshi Wooden Horse and Soldier Rider Toy

An unusual vintage Japanese mingei wooden military officer on horseback toy. Articulated at head and all four limbs. Rolls on wheels. Handmade and painted by a kokeshi artist, unsigned but possibly by Abe Tsunekichi. A very fine example of traditional Japanese folk art. Approx. 6.5” L, 6.25” H, 2.25” W. First half of the 20th century. Light dirt and wear commensurate with play and age. From smoke free storage.
