Fifth Angel is an American heavy metal band from Bellevue, Washington, formed in 1983, known for pioneering power metal sounds with melodic vocals and dual guitar work. Their self-titled debut album, Fifth Angel, was released in 1986 on Shrapnel Records after a 1983-1984 demo caught producer Mike Varney’s attention; Epic Records reissued it in 1988 with new artwork. The album blends classic heavy metal with power metal aggression, drawing comparisons to Dio, early Queensrÿche, and Crimson Glory. Ted Pilot’s melodic, energetic vocals stand out, supported by high-caliber guitar leads and no filler tracks across nine songs. It remains a cult classic, recently highlighted in a 2025 biography Wings of Destiny.
