Nice antique original advertising catalog for F. Trifet of Boston, Massachusetts
Ferdinand Marie Trifet began his business career in Boston at the age of 18 as an importer and dealer in foreign stamps and coins for collectors. He was a member of the so-called "Boston Gang" of stamp forgers creating fantasy stamps and selling bogus as genuine. In 1879 he added music publishing to his stamp business with the intention of selling music to the masses in large volume at small profits. This new business venture proved very successful, with Trifet Editons of music and music books figuring in the millions.
