UES UES 502354 Extra Heavy Flannel Shirt 15oz Size (L)

Purchased in May 2025, this item has only been washed once to remove the starch. Naturally, there is no damage, and the tags are present.

This is a pre-dyed check shirt made from fabric weighing over 15 ounces. The UES original fabric with selvedge, despite being 100% cotton, has the volume of wool and a deep color. Because the fabric is woven with very thick yarn, there are only a limited number of looms in Japan that can be used, and the use of old-style shuttle looms means that the amount that can be produced annually is also limited, making it a valuable fabric. The old-style looms are used to bring out the original texture of the yarn by weaving slowly without excessively pulling the warp threads. This slows down production, but it allows for the creation of soft and voluminous fabric.

The hem of the shirt is piped, and it is designed to be worn untucked.

Because it is woven using a power loom, the fabric's selvedge can be seen on the folded edge of the left front panel. Even in Japan, which is known for its selvedge fabrics, there are only a few shuttle looms that can weave fabric this thick, making this a very rare product.

Regarding the fabric pattern, the check pattern is enlarged to give it an outerwear feel. When cutting the parts, skilled craftsmen work in groups to match the pattern. The larger the pattern, the more fabric is needed for one garment. Matching the pattern results in a beautiful finish.

The attention to detail extends to the buttons. They are horn buttons, carved from buffalo horn. Although they are less durable than resin buttons, they are chosen for their superior color and texture. The buttons are primarily black, with variations of dark and light brown, and no two are alike. Some may have slight imperfections, but these are considered to be the unique characteristics of natural materials. A spare button is sewn onto the care label, so please remove it and store it.
