The biggest appeal of the 501 Original is the raw denim used in the material. As the color name RIGID suggests, it is stiff and crisp when new, but washing it removes the starch, changing it to the soft texture of the original cotton.

After several washes, when the starch is completely removed, the fabric becomes denser, and at this point, the waist shrinks by about 3% and the length by about 10%. Furthermore, by wearing and washing repeatedly, it conforms to the wearer's body... "Shrink-to-Fit" written on the paper tag means this.
