Two gorgeous vintage hand colored prints after 18th century etchings by French artist Claude Audran. Per research, these two prints are a part of a twelve piece series of Les Douze Mois Grotesques (The Twelve Months Grosteques). Per definition, in art grotesques are detailed compositions of human and/or animal figures, symmetrically arranged within architectural/scroll framework. These particular prints were from a series depicting Roman(?) mythological characters and animals associated with each of the twelve months of the year. While prints likely originated in Europe, framing was done in the US at a later date. Both, the prints and frames are in good, but not perfect condition. The prints themselves have yellowing, the frames have slight wear and there is some discoloration/damage to the backing. The measurements (frames included, but not the decorative hanging mechanism) are 16 1/2 x 5 1/2 x 3/4".
