Ulysses S. Grant III (1881-1968) was a grandson of Ulysses S. Grant and a career Army officer.

Born on the 4th of July, Grant studied at West Point and finished sixth in the class of 1903 (Douglas MacArthur finished first). His service with the Army placed him in various locations throughout the world with the Army Corps of Engineers and the General Staff Corps. In 1904 Grant served as an aide to President Theodore Roosevelt. Grant met his future wife while he was at the White House. In 1907, Grant married Edith Root (1878–1962), the daughter of Elihu Root, the former Secretary of War and Secretary of State. They had three daughters: Edith, Clara Frances, and Julia. He was a veteran of both World War I and World War II and retired at the rank of Major General in 1946.
