It's not often seen these days.

✴️A rare collection catalog from the Metropolitan Museum, particularly featuring 2nd-century Mathura stone statues and stone and bronze statues from Funan and Chenla (pre-Angkor) from the 6th to 8th centuries.

Although it's a book from over 40 years ago, it has particularly excellent content among the vast number of museum catalogs to date.

The Mathura stone statues are regrettably of the highest quality.

This is a recommended book for universities, researchers, and those who want to purchase cultural assets, as it contains high-quality cultural assets.

✴️When you go to see pre-Angkorian statues, you'll find masterpieces in the Chaiya of the Srivijaya Kingdom, Si Thep, registered as a World Heritage site, and of course, the Bangkok National Museum and the Phnom Penh National Museum, but my heart is drawn to the Mekong Delta region (Vietnam), including the Phnom Da temple of the earliest style.

The three statues in the Dong Thap Province Museum, the two in the Vinh Long Province Museum, the one in the Bien Hoa Dong Nai Museum, and the Ho Chi Minh City Museum of History are the best places to learn about the raw "stone skin" of pre-Angkor.

Although the number of stone statues in the museum is small, it is a paradise for those who have actually collected authentic pre-Angkorian stone statues.

The pre-Angkorian statues from the Phnom Da style are on par with the world's highest level, alongside the stone statues of World Heritage sites in India and China.

◎Sitting in a cafe while looking at the Mekong River and the Co Chien River, it's hard to imagine the devastating damage caused by the Vietnam War, which occurred within 80 years in this Mekong Delta, and the Pol Pot regime. There is redevelopment and many beautiful hotels.

The old people who gave me the cultural assets are no longer with us.

✴︎Please understand that there may be folds and stains due to aging. We ask for your understanding as a valuable old book.
