This item is a fundamental base, the most important fountain pen, which can be said to be the origin of Pilot's Custom series, the core of their fountain pens.

As a Pilot fountain pen with a gold nib, it's the most affordable base pen, but I saw the same one sold for 30,000 yen recently.

The "74" seems to signify this is a masterpiece released to commemorate the 74th anniversary of Pilot fountain pens.

The Pilot Custom 74 was released on Pilot's 74th anniversary as part of the Custom series, which was launched in the 1970s. It's introduced as the first pen for beginners with a genuine gold nib, but its high level of completion makes it a dangerous fountain pen that could become your only pen.

It is said to be the origin of the Custom series, along with the Pilot Custom 742, Custom 743, and Custom 823.
